We are always happy for prospective members to come and visit one of our session to watch and get a feel for what we do. Please feel free to approach any of our senior members either before or after the session if you have any questions or require any information.The age limit for our club is 12 but we may accept younger people after an interview with you and a guardian.Wear clothing that you can move around in easily such as at-shirt and tracksuit pants.
Kendo is a physically and mentally challenging activity that combines strong martial arts values with sporting-like physical elements.It is practiced by several million people, or "Kendoka", throughout the world. Kendoka train rigorously with the purpose of molding the mind and body, cultivating a vigourous spirit and striving for improvement in the art of Kendo.
Cavan Kendo Kai ordinary membership entitles you to practice under Irish Kendo Federation insurance, attend all national events, attend the AGM, take part in votes and elections and to stand for election to the board of Kendo na hÉireann.
Junior membership between 12 yrs & 18 yrs
A reduced rate for those between 10 years old and 18 Years old. Junior members have the same rights as ordinary members with the exception that they cannot stand for election to the board of Kendo na hÉireann.
Designed for families, this membership confers the same privileges as ordinary membership for over 18s, and the same privileges as junior membership.
Concessionary membership (Student/unemployed/apprentice – ID required)
This membership is for full time students, unemployed/unwaged and apprentices. Confers the same rights as ordinary membership but at a concessionary rate. For students a valid ID is required.
Shinai is a weapon used for practice and competition in kendo representing a Japanese sword.
At Cavan Kendo Kai we practice the Japanese martial art of sword-fighting every Sunday at 10:30am in the Scout's Den.
